Happy to hear you have new releases coming soon! I love your work w/ the Rollins Band, but your solo acoustic Language is one of my favorite all-time records. Cheers.

Hey Chris,
I went to NAMM again this year (2011) and went by the Shure booth to see my many friends there (also it is always right next to the Steinberg booth & I was hoping to see Rodney O. there, but he was not there) and I noticed Henry R. was doing a thing at the Shure booth... and I remembered giving you an introduction to WeiQi (aka Go & Baduk) at NAMM many years ago... have you played any games of Go lately? Did you go to NAMM this year? Any plans for touring other than Australia?

I have a very similiar guitar. Same body but finished in a gorgous three tone sunburst and with a bad tremelo. Also has a burled maple back, this is what caught my eye in the first place.

I am planning on putting a stop-tail type bridge on it, possibly a bigsby if it would not need any drilling or other modification to the face of the instrument. I know the originality will be diminished but it really doesn't make sense to have a tremelo on an artop.

If you care I could send some photos. You may also be interested in the Harmony Meteor, I bought this from the same source as the Hofner and they are quite similiar, possible made by the same company.

You would probably like the PRS "Swamp Ash". It has a similiar pick-up configuration but has the adition of a single coil blade in the middle position. It retains the same wiring positions for the humbuckers; the single coil is activated by a pull on the tone knob so you get the same 5 humbucking wiring positions but can add the single coil as needed. There is no way to use only the middle position pickup though, not that this is a problem.

I like the McCarty too. I have the Mccarty II with a Similiar finish. Your McCarty looks to have a deeper carve than the regular ones, pretty lucky. I prefer the fixed bridge though, never been a fan of tremelos, not even one's that aren't problematic.
You ever have a Floyd Rose?
God what a nightmare, the first time I changed strings (I made the mistake of removing all of the old strings first) took over two hours. And how cool is it to have your guitar's tuning jump up 3 steps if you break a string? Floyd Rose obviously never learned the truth to the saying "keep it simple".

Can't you send it to PRS and have the electronics returned to their proper condition? Or maybe experiment with a pair of vintage PAF humbuckers? The guitar itself looks very nice, this problem is easily fixable. You could even gut a 70's Japanese guitar's electronics; an Aria TS 500's electronics would go very well with this body.

Hi Chris -- just wanted to say thanks for posting those pics of my old friend Dave Byers. I was a DC guitar player c.1980-83, and we used to play together every chance we got. Dave called me Doc Chops cuz I could play fast and knew all that jazz shit. Fact is I was trying to play like him. John Gibson was usually on bass (we had a band called the Pretensh-tones for a while). I lost touch with Dave when I moved to NYC in 1983 and just recently got to wondering about him, only to find on the internet that he had recently died. Brought me to tears. He was a great guy and a great guitar player. So thanks for giving me some pics to remember him by. Best of luck -- Michael
